I'm not even sure if I can say that. But don't they? If you aren't mad at the Chinese for being too dang good at synchronized diving, then you are trash talking the Russian gymnasts when they mess up on the balance beam. Even if you aren't making directly racist comments, pitting different nationalities against each other often leads to those types of feelings.
And if you don't feel racist, you probably just feel ignorant. "That's a country?" "I didn't know that we stole that song from England....." These are things that I have said. And I haven't lived under a cultural rock. I've been to a few different countries and hosted some exchange students. But the world is kind of a big place and I haven't studied geography since Middle School.
I've mostly been watching the evening sessions (and it has been adding to my lack of sleep this week) and one of my favorite events is gymnastics. I know that a lot of what they do seems very antiquated and traditional, but this is the only time that I watch gymnastics on television, so it is often new to me since I haven't seen it in four years! When I was little, I loved the sparkly spandex outfits that they wore. This year, I've been intrigued with the jackets they put on before and after. The United States and Russia have been the most interesting to me.
